CLEVELAND -- Todd Bowles was on the last coaching staff to get the Browns to the playoffs.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Oilers Jersey . He might get a chance to take them back. Bowles will interview for Clevelands head coaching job Friday, NFL Network reported Thursday. Bowles, who spent the past season as Arizonas defensive co-ordinator, was an assistant with the Browns from 2001-04, coaching defensive backs on Butch Davis staff. With Bowles, the Browns went to the AFC playoffs in 2002, their last visit and the only time theyve been to the post-season since their expansion reboot in 1999. Now, the team is looking for its fourth full-time coach in six years -- and seventh in 15 years -- after Rob Chudzinski was fired last week after one season. Bowles certainly has an impressive, varied resume. In his first year with the Cardinals, the 50-year-old Bowles helped Arizona to a 10-6 record. He spent 2012 with Philadelphia, starting the season coaching the secondary before finishing as defensive co-ordinator when Juan Castillo was fired. He was Miamis interim head coach for the final four games of the 2011 season after the Dolphins fired Tony Sparano. Bowles background with Cleveland will help his cause, so may his Arizona connection. Last season, the Browns hired former Cardinals defensive co-ordinator Ray Horton, who improved the unit but isnt expected to return. Bowles played safety for eight seasons in the NFL with Washington and San Francisco, winning a Super Bowl with the Redskins in 1988. An interview with Bowles would satisfy the Rooney Rule, requiring teams to meet with at least one minority candidate. Bowles also is expected to interview for Minnesotas head coaching vacancy. The Browns are not commenting on their search or confirming any interviews. On Saturday, owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner are expected to meet with New England offensive co-ordinator Josh McDaniels, considered the favourite to replace Chudzinski, whose dismissal came after the Browns lost their last seven games and finished 4-12. The team has also reportedly met with Seattle defensive co-ordinator Dan Quinn. McDaniels has long been connected to Clevelands job because of his relationship with Browns general manager Michael Lombardi. When McDaniels was fired as Denvers coach after going 11-17 in 2010, Lombardi condemned the move and said the young coach would grow from the experience with the Broncos and develop into a successful coach the way Bill Belichick did. The Browns can speak with McDaniels this week because the Patriots have a first-round bye. There are also reports the team is interested in meeting with Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, who is preparing his team for the BCS national championship game against Florida State on Monday night. Malzahn has no NFL coaching experience, but hes seen as an offensive innovator much like Chip Kelly, who was at the top of Clevelands wish list last year before he signed with Philadelphia.

Jari Kurri Oilers Jersey . Therrien would not confirm his lineup for the game, but he did have the same line combinations practicing together for the third straight day which is usually a pretty good indication of what the lineup will be.

Rooneys latest piece of football genius lost in the furore which now stalks David Moyes, and the man who gave the Manchester United striker his start as a 16-year old at Goodison Park back in 2002.The Ottawa Redblacks are making a play for coveted slotback Weston Dressler. Redblacks general manager Marcel Desjardins said Wednesday he has made a contract offer to the former Saskatchewan Roughriders star, who cleared NFL waivers Tuesday after being released by the Kansas City Chiefs. Desjardins added he hasnt immediately heard back from Dresslers camp and wasnt sure when he would. "Weve made an offer and thats pretty much where its at," Desjardins said. Ottawa isnt the only team to have made a pitch to Dressler. A CFL source requesting anonymity said Saskatchewan has also offered him a deal. Justin Seurer, Dresslers agent, did not immediately return telephone messages. Desjardins wouldnt divulge contract details but there are reports the Redblacks offer was worth $250,000 annually. The Riders released Dressler, 29, in January -- roughly two weeks before he was scheduled to become a CFL free agent -- so he could explore his options south of the border. Shortly after working out for the Chiefs, Dressler signed with the NFL club and donned No. 13 in honour of Saskatchewans rabid football fans, affectionately dubbed the 13th Man. The five-foot-eight, 179-pound native of Bismarck, N.D., spent his entire six-year CFL career with Saskatchewan, registering 442 catches for 6,531 yards and 43 TDs. He surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving plateau five times, including the last four years. Dressler had five catches for a game-high 81 yards and a TD in Saskatchewans 45-23 Grey Cup victory over Hamilton last November at Reginas Mosaic Stadium.
Wayne Gretzky Oilers Jersey. A two-time all-star, Dressler was the CFLs top rookie in 2008. Dressler appeared in three exhibition games with Kansas City, recording a 19-yard kickoff return. Desjardins said Dressler would definitely improve the Redblacks offence -- which is ranked second-last in scoring (15.8 points per game) and yards (291.8 per game) -- while also helping the franchise in the community. "He brings ability on the field, ability off the field in terms of leadership skills and the type of person he is and the character he has," Desjardins said. "Hed be a tremendous asset to the Redblacks. "The football side of it, I think, is pretty self explanatory but hed bring us a true weapon." And the more weapons the better for Ottawa (1-7), which enters weekend action just four points behind the first-place Toronto Argonauts (3-6) in the East Division. As an unrestricted free agent, Dressler is free to join ay CFL team and there are reports as many as five are interested in the veteran receiver. And with the leagues salary cap increasing to $5 million this year, that could give clubs more money to try and entice Dressler. And Desjardins doesnt think Dressler will wait long to decide his CFL future. "My sense of it, based on what I talked to him about the other day was towards the end of the week," Desjardins said. "But that was more a sense than him actually saying it."
